Bugs and Buttons from Little Bit Studios

This is a fantastic and engaging app for younger students. It has multiple activities and games within the app that utilize kids fascination with bugs to be as motivating as possible.
The activities reinforce a range of skills such as:

  • fine motor control
  • pinching movements
  • counting
  • alphabet
  • sorting into categories
  • low level strategy
  • and more

Creative Book Builder

$5.29
"Creative Book Builder enables everyone to create, edit and publish ebooks in a few minutes on the go."
When the books are published they can then be read in iBooks like a normal book.
This app is fairly straight forward. you create pages and can add photo's from your photo library or take one using the iPad camera. you can also add in your own narration and video clips that get embedded.
I can see this being excellent to create personalised social stories for students and even getting them involved in the creation process.

Conversation Builder

$8.29
This is a nice little app from the makers of 'Sentence Builder' , 'Language Builder' and so on.
In this app students get to study pictures and choose from conversation starters that relate to the pictures. They can also record themselves saying the sentences and play it back to themselves to get that reinforcement.

Puppet pals

This is a fantastic app! Students can create their own puppet plays using template characters and backgrounds or they can use their own photos of people and scenes around home or school. You then move the characters around the stage and the app records everything being spoken and records it as a movie. This has been really successful in encouraging interaction and conversation skills, also sequencing and planning stories.

Paint Letters

Finger painting capital letters.
Good for fine motor control and directionality.
You can choose colours to paint with.

Sound Touch

Animals, vehicles, musical instruments, household objects.
Choose item from the main screen and a photo pops up with the appropriate sound effect.
Very good cause and effect and language development for younger students or those with limited vocab.
Students at school are very motivated to use this app!

Proloquo2Go

Proloquo2Go is a fantastic communication aid for students with difficulties speaking. Is is organised into categories of things to talk about and fully customizable. Pictures can be added and own phrases. There are different voices to use and a choice between American and British accents at the moment. This software is expensive at about $250, but compared to other similar devices it is incredibly cheap.
